Jaipur Enforces Major Academic Shift: Class 5 Students Can Now Be Failed from Session 2026–27
Jaipur introduces a new rule from the 2026–27 session allowing Class 5 students to be failed, ending the no-detention policy. The education department mandates passing supplementary exams and enforces stricter evaluation, extending rules earlier applied after Class 8 to the primary level.
Under the revised framework, passing the supplementary examination has also been made mandatory. Students who fail to clear the required assessments, including the supplementary exam, will be detained in the same class. The decision has been formalized through a new notification issued by the education department, signalling a firm administrative push toward reinforcing academic discipline.
The development extends the enforcement of such rules beyond Class 8, where similar provisions had already been implemented, bringing Class 5 within its ambit. Officials indicate that the move is aimed at increasing seriousness in both teaching and evaluation processes, ens
uring that foundational learning standards are met with greater rigor.
With the introduction of this rule, the education system is set to undergo a notable transition, as stricter evaluation measures at the primary level are expected to reshape learning outcomes and accountability for students and educators alike.
